BYU Independent Study is a nonprofit online educational program that offers more than 550 online courses—university, high school, middle school, and free noncredit courses—to students throughout the United States and in over 90 foreign countries. Enrollment is open to anyone, any time of the year, with a full year to complete most courses. We are continually developing more courses in our portfolio, so it is important to check our online catalog for the most up-to-date course listing.
We provide course options (Teacher-Led courses, Online courses, and Paper courses) to help high school students learn in many different situations. Our traditional Paper courses provide your students with a paper version of the course and online access. Our Online courses provide virtual learning supported by the use of diverse videos, computerized labs, interactive activities, instructor tutorials, and animated clips. They also feature advanced features and productivity tools, including a student homepage, improved access to student grades, and a student progress calendar. Our Teacher-Led courses provide all of the benefits of Online courses while making the experience more interactive. They include one-on-one mentoring; live, weekly, teacher-led activities; begin with a course orientation provided by the teacher, and meet certain state/organizational requirements for more instructor interaction and student guidance. Our Teacher-Led language courses allow students to practice their language with students, mentors, and the instructor.
University courses cost only $183 per credit hour. High school Paper courses are $158 per 0.5 (half) credit hour, Online courses are $148 per 0.5 (half) credit hour, and Teacher-Led courses are $249 per 0.5 (half) credit hour. Middle school courses are also only $148 per 0.5 (half) credit course. Also offered are five 0.5 (half) credit “values” high school courses for only $54 each, to help students who need to complete additional credit for graduation.
All of our online courses are taught by certified instructors and have the high quality and rigor needed to prepare students to meet your school’s graduation requirements. The courses engage students with multimedia, video, animation, and interactive labs. BYU Independent Study students register online or by phone for a course and can start their course immediately. After submitting all course assignments, students take a final exam with a certified proctor or testing center in their area. Course credit can be transferred to most educational institutions across the nation.
We have a staff of highly trained customer support representatives available by phone (toll free), e-mail, live chat, or in person at our office/testing center in Provo, Utah.
