This course covers the basics of spoken and written Arabic, including the Arabic alphabet and basic sentence construction. Cultural activities are also included. Using the most widely used textbooks and engaging online activities built by BYU and the University of California, students will learn the basics of both colloquial (Egyptian or Jordanian) and Modern Standard Arabic. Regular speaking appointments (conducted using Adobe® Connect™) with one of our Arabic-speaking teaching assistants is required. This course also offers live instructor-led lesson reviews/activities.This course is the second in a four-part Arabic series (ARAB 041, ARAB 043, ARAB 051, and ARAB 053) and is a continuation of First-Year Arabic, Part 1 (ARAB 041).
This course has live speaking appointments with an Arabic-speaking teaching assistant; a webcam, microphone, and speakers are necessary to conduct these appointments. Please note, in addition to the textbook there is a $25 fee for the Al-Kitaab companion Website subscription.
