This course covers beginning to intermediate skills in spoken and written Arabic, including basic grammar structures, reading strategies, and speaking about familiar subjects such as family and personal life. Cultural activities are an important part of this course. Using the most widely used textbooks and engaging online activities built by BYU, students will learn to communicate in both spoken and formal Arabic. Regular speaking appointments (conducted using Adobe® Connect™) with one of our Arabic-speaking teaching assistants is required. Live instructor-led lesson reviews/activities are broadcast regularly. This course is the fourth in a four-part series (ARAB 041, 043, 051 and 053) and is a continuation of ARAB 051 (Second-Year Arabic, Part 1).

Students will need access to a computer with high speed Internet access, a microphone, speakers (or headphones), and a webcam.
There are no resubmissions or retakes on instructor-graded assignments. On speaking appointments, lowest score may be dropped. You must complete this speaking appointment before you can take your unit quiz.

Due to the nature of this course’s learning outcomes, the exams are only available in a paper format. Please plan for shipping time.
