This is the second course in a four-part French series (FREN 041, FREN 043, FREN 051, and FREN 053) and is a continuation of First-Year French, Part 1 (FREN 041). You will learn basic conversation skills for greeting others and talking about the place(s) you live in, as well as for talking about celebrations and holidays, weather, hobbies, travel, cuisine, and clothing. You will learn about the cultures of several different French-speaking countries. There is specific emphasis on speaking and comprehension, as well as reading and writing. This course is highly interactive, giving you the chance to not only read French, but also to listen to native French speakers and to practice speaking. One of the exciting interactive elements in the course is voice recognition, which listens to you pronounce French words and then gives you feedback. The course also features live one-on-one speaking appointments. Students will need access to a computer with high-speed Internet access, a microphone, speakers (or headphones), and a webcam. There are no resubmissions or retakes on instructor-graded assignments, unit quizzes, or the final exam. On speaking appointments, the lowest score may be dropped. You must complete the speaking appointment in each unit before you can move on to the next unit.
