1. Schedule An Appointment

To schedule an appointment, click on the ‘Schedule Meeting’ icon on the cards and sign in. If you are a first time user, you will need to register for an account first, by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page that opens. Once you sign in, you will need to select the day you'd like your appointment, followed by the time you would like to schedule. All appointments are done over video. At the end, you will be prompted to add additional information for the appointment. Please include all information so your tutor can properly prepare for the appointment.

2. Send An Email

Please Note: 

  • Tutoring is only available for university-level students. 
  • Tutors do not review grammar or spelling, proofread papers, or assign grades.
  • Tutors can assist in all stages of the writing process (assignment clarification, brainstorming, revising, etc.)

Services

Required Preparation

In order to receive assistance from tutors, at least 24 hours in advance of an appointment, students must send the following Required Preparation Materials to virtualwriting@byu.edu:

  • The full course name (e.g. WRTG-150-M001)
  • A copy of the draft (not needed if student does not want it reviewed)
  • The assignment as written in the course
  • The rubric for the assignment (if provided)
  • Other relevant materials pertaining to the assignment
  • Specific questions or concerns concerning their writing

Students must have access to these resources during the appointment as well.

Without the Required Preparation Materials, tutors will not have sufficient information to help students with their assignments. As a result, students who do not provide this information accordingly will not receive adequate (if any) assistance from tutors.

Email Services

  • Students who are unable to access the services by appointment can email their questions to virtualwriting@byu.edu for help.
  • Tutors will respond to student e-mails within two business days.
  • Students must give their tutor the Required Preparation Materials to receive service.

Cancellations

To cancel an appointment, students should click on the cancelation link provided to them in their appointment confirmation e-mail or e-mail their tutor at vitualwriting@byu.edu.
